My favorite part about the class was writing the cards for vocal words. Nothing made me more excited than those. I also enjoyed the Hamlet section, because it was the first time I actually understood a Shakespeare play. We may have read from a comic book, but at least I knew what was going on. I also enjoyed the beginning of the year doing the Anglo Saxon unit and learning about the older times in Europe.

My least favorite part of the class was probably the constant amount of work we had. It. seemed as if we never had any slow weeks. However I think the class helped me prepare for college with the constant amount of work and writing different essays. My advice for juniors is to be ready to work and hand in your work. Try to at least look at every assignment and put some effort in to it. Don’t take your time for granted, you may never know a when pandemic may strike RIP.

While reading Brave New World I learned that a society that doesn’t focus around truth is corrupt. The book focused on the people that were curious of why they lived the way they lived. I think being curious of why things are the way they are is crucial for anyone to be able to learn. Questioning things for what they are has always important to me, because trusting things without reason isn’t smart.

I don’t tend to trust any news sources or any other things that aren’t directly from the source. I never liked watching the news or trusting people. I think society today relies on the news to much, which is leading to opposite sides to going farther apart and disagreeing more than ever. Nobody cares about the whole truth. People only care about what they think is the truth. People are afraid to be wrong.

I hope that I always seek the truth and never let my pride or other influences get in the way of truth. This book helped emphasize that lesson for me. I also hope that in the future if I do become corrupt I have friends and people to tell me I have. I hope the truth always stays what it is and doesn’t develop in to an altered version.

I have always liked Satire, but never understood the different kinds. I liked things that were funny. Now I know what makes things funny and how satires differentiates from each other. Juvenalian is my favorite type of satire as it aims at being more bitter towards a group or person. Horatian is my second favorite as it kind of makes fun of people, but is more witty and aimed at making them laugh with you.

Reverse satire involves flipping everything around and making things opposite. Exaggeration is blowing something out of proportion. Incongruity involves taking something and making it very out of place with its surroundings. A parody makes fun of a literal or artistic piece for comedy. The different satires were exciting to learn.

Lion King and Hamlet are two stories that I never thought to have any similarity, which was very surprising when I found out they were almost exactly the same. Simba and Hamlet both lose their proud, strong, and warrior like fathers. Their uncles both killed their father. Amy of the characters trait are similar such as Nala and Ophelia they were both stronger than simba and Hamlet by their actions.

The stories however also had their differences. Lion King shows us the life of Mufasa and more of what he is compared to Old Hamlet being dead at the very start of Hamlet. Simba wanted to be King since he was very young, while Hamlet wanted nothing to do with being King after his father. The overall tone of each story is very different with Lion King being more positive and Hamlet being more negative. At the end of Lion King we are left with several characters, while everyone was. dead at the end of Hamlet.

For my job shadow I didn’t pick a career the was directly related with the careers I researched. I job shadowed a recreation manager for the day. I learned about the daily life and duties of someone with this position. I was very excited to learn about the job, because I have always had and interest in sports and management. The job shadow was very informing.

The start of the day started with a meeting with other recreation managers. They discussed different programs and events that why were in charge of. Operating and running the different programs is the most exciting part of the job that I was interested in. Teaching youth basketball and baseball is something I always found interesting, which is the majority of the job. We didn’t get to do any of the programs due to them being later in the day, but I learned a lot about what they do while they aren’t running programs and are around the office.

Hamlet is a story about a young man who struggles to deal with his life after his uncle, Claudius, kills Hamlet’s father, Old Hamlet. Hamlet discovers his uncle killed his father and wants to get revenge. Hamlet is also very upset with his mother for now being with Claudius shortly after Old Hamlet died. He starts to fake madness, but soon becomes consumed by the fake madness and begins to turn. He seeks the revenge against Claudius, but can never come to do it. He eventually gets his revenge at the end of the story at the sake of his own life also.

Hamlet is also in love with Ophelia during the story. He disregards her once he fakes his madness. He also accidentally kills her father, Polonius, thinking it was Claudius. Hamlet’s madness can never be certainly proved, but that was the point he is believed to have gone truly mad. The story takes many twists and turns leading to the death of everyone.

My favorite quote from the story was when Polonius said, “To thine own self be true”. I think this quote can apply to the whole story and today’s society. Being true to yourself is very important for knowing what you want out of life. Honesty within yourself is very important. I think the quote can apply to what we learned in the story. Everyone was filled with lies to themselves and deep regrets. I learned from the story to be myself and don’t become selfish for self gain.

While writing this paper, I researched several different interesting careers. Each career was something I have had interest in for some time. I learned about the basic requirements and aspects of each career. The careers I chose were all just as interesting as I thought they were. Writing the paper while learning about the new careers was difficult, but also enjoyable.

It was frustrating writing the paper without using clutter. I tried to write about my new interesting knowledge about my careers without clutter and I failed miserably. I believe I still had around 80 clutter words still. I think this paper was very beneficial though for writing more long papers in the future. I dreaded the paper at first, but after I got to. writing and learning I enjoyed the paper. Although I hate the clutter and still use a lot of it, I think I got better at eliminating it in my papers.

I took the Myers-Briggs personality test and my results came back that I was a Mediator. They describe a mediator as someone who looks for the good in most things rather than the worst. They mention a mediator tends to be shy and more reserved. I always thought of myself as more of a listener, which is how the test described a mediator. They tend to listen too many, but talk to few which is accurate.

The mediator was described as relying on feelings more than thinking. I disagree with that about myself, because I rarely ever act off of feelings. It mentions mediator’s don’t like dealing with data, however I love looking at charts and graphs of data that is interesting. They say a mediator takes criticism very personally, but I don’t think I let anybody really get to me. It says creativity is a strength mediators have, but I don’t find myself very creative.

In the story we experience the several different types of medieval romance qualities. We are shown the quality that the protagonist is a king or knight by having Arthur as the protagonist. We are shown the quality of mystery and suspense when Arthur has a dream. He dreams that Sir Gawain is warning him not to fight the next day, because he will die. This makes Arthur worry and attempt to make piece with the armies. We are also shown the quality repetition of three and seven. Sir Bedivere tries to throw Arthur’s sword, Excalibur, into the lake three times before the Lady of the Lake finally takes the sword.

In The Knight’s Tale we learn about a young man who wants to become a knight. He does so by faking and competing in jousting tournaments. He honors the knight’s code and chivalry in the way that he lives most of the time. He respects other fellow knights and doesn’t back down from an equal challenge. He also respects the princess.

The movie Monty Python mocks most of the qualities of the knight’s code. Arthur lies to many people throughout the entire movie. He doesn’t treat the poor well either. He gathers all of his knights for the round table, which are also not followers of the knights code. They back down from challenges and disrespect other knights.

The Canterbury Tales are a prime example of the Middle English time period. The stories start with a Prologue that introduces the reader to all the different characters throughout the story. The Prologue introduces us to the Knight, the Pardoner, the Friar, the Monk, and others. The Prologue shows the religious journey many of them are searching for. It also explains how the tales is a giant collection of character stories and their journey. The best story would win a free dinner, while the host is the judge.

In the Pardoners Tale, we learn about the Pardoner and three men. Three men search out looking for “death”. The men think of death as a person who kills people. The three men encounter an old man that when asked where death was told it was under a tree towards the grove. The men go to the tree and find a large pile of gold. The brothers try to cheap out their brothers from a share of the gold. The brothers kill each other with greed for more gold. This portrayed the theme that greed is the root of all evil.

In the Wife of Bath’s we learn about the character and a knight. A knight had raped a woman and had been given a challenge to do within a year and a day by the queen. The knight had been requested to find what woman really want in life. The knight searched all throughout and couldn’t find the answer. The knight eventually finds an old woman that tells him she knows what woman truly want, but won’t tell him unless he promises to marry her afterwards. The woman tells him that women want to be treated with self same sovereignty. The queen approves of the answer and the knight is forced to marry the old woman. The knight hates being married to the woman and complains to her. She was a perfect wife, but the knight didn’t like how old she was. The wife told him she could be young and unfaithful for him if he pleased. The knight agreed to which the woman turned herself into her younger, beautiful self revealing that she is a witch.
